How did you become a zookeeper?
I studied zoology in Trinity College and then applied for a job at Dublin Zoo. I was lucky to be taken on as an assistant in the African Plains working with the giraffe section.

What kind of animals do you take care of?
Elephants and primates

Which are your favourite animals in the Zoo?
African hunting dogs and sea lions

Do you have any pets at home?
Yes, a horse, 2 love birds, a cat and a dog.

Can you tell us one of your most exciting moments in the Zoo?
When the Waldrapp Ibis finally bred after 4 years. It was very exciting as the species is critically endangered and very important to the international breeding programme.

What do you love most about your job?
Working with a wide variety of animals and caring for their well being and health, both mentally and physically.

What’s the most difficult thing about your work?
When an animal you've worked with dies

When you’re not working in the zoo, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
Horse riding, travelling
